Under 13’s make great start
The Under 13’s start the season with two wins from two.
The first match was against St Andrews in the league. Having been beaten narrowly last season by St Andrews, we were hoping to turn the result round. We lost the toss and were put into bat. Henry was given the task of opening with Bryce and asked to put runs on the scoreboard quickly. He did that superbly and quickly retired not out on 28. Bryce then also retired not out with 25. Samir and Marco kept the runs flowing before Samir went for one big hit too many and was caught for 19. Marco retired not out on 26, which included one big six. Charlie and Dan saw out the final balls both finishing not out including a great shot to the boundary from Charlie. We finished on 118 for 1 from our 16 overs. St Andrews got off to a good start with some strong batting before Samir came on to bowl and took 2 wickets in 2 balls in his first over. Bryce then caught the other St Andrews opener off his own bowling. The result was not in doubt after that aided by some good bowling from everyone and a wicket each for Aditya and Aaron. St Andrews finished on 80 for 5.
The match trophy award went to Henry for getting the season off to a fantastic start with his strong batting.
The second match was in the ECB National Cup Competition against Portslade. It was arranged for the Friday morning, as after a quick survey it was decided that nothing should stop for cricket not even a wedding! We lost the toss and were put into bat. After some quick not out retirements from our opening 3 batsmen (Bryce 26, Henry 25 and Kieran 26) we were in a great position. Max came in and scored a quick 20 with some big hits before being bowled. The other batsmen kept the score ticking along nicely including a not out 21 for Scott. The total was 158 for 3 from 20 overs. Having finished the innings at just the right time to see Wills and Kate say “I Will”, Marco opened the bowling and with his first ball bowled the Portslade opener. Not a bad start! There was some excellent bowling by all the team – everyone bowled 2 overs and all had good figures. Portslade finished on 84 for 5.
The match trophy went to Ollie for some great wicket keeping, helping to restrict the byes and taking an excellent stumping.
Many thanks to the parents for their support and help with umpiring, scoring, teas and drinks (and biscuits!).
