Nail-biter as Under 13's just lose out by two runs
The Under 13’s continued in the league with an away match to last season's league winners St James.
Bryce lost the toss (3 out of 3!) and we were asked to field. With the openers unable to get a breakthrough, on came Scott who with his usual straight bowling removed both opening batsmen. We continued to bowl tightly and although only getting one more wicket (Samir), restricted St James to just 69 from the first 14 overs. Unfortunately, a couple of loose overs at the end meant that St James reached 89 from their 16 overs.
St James bowled very well and we were always below the run rate. When Marco came to the crease, he and Bryce tried to take the initiative to the spinners. Bryce (21) played on when trying to hit the ball over the South Downs. Marco retired not out on 26. At this stage, all batsmen went in knowing they had to score runs quickly. They tried to do this valiantly but St James caught and fielded superbly to continue to take wickets. A great effort saw us fall only 2 runs short.
All in all a fantastic match. Credit must go to St James with one of the best fielding displays I have seen at this level. Also, well done to all the team for showing a great team spirit. I have seen a number of St James parents since and all have commented what a great bunch of lads we are and a credit to Brighton & Hove CC. The match award went to Aaron who typified this team spirit amongst the lads.
