Dorothy Howe's 80th Birthday - What a hero!!

A true club legend turns 80 years young!!

22nd October 2011

Saturday 15th October 2011 will be remembered not for that referee who single handly beat Wales in the Rugby World Cup but solely because it was the great Dorothy Howe's 80th birthday!

Some new members may have only met Dorothy a few times but I feel sure she will have made an impression. You will not meet a woman more kind and generous than Dorothy. She has given so much of her time to Brighton and Hove Cricket Club over the years and I'm certain I speak on behalf of all members when I extend our happy returns for the day.

Personally i look back fondly on the days when Dorothy scored for the 1st and 2nd XI every week and sometimes told me i had scored more than a handful of runs! She always gave us a lift to the game in her little green car and knew exactly what to say when the cricket gods had not shined on you during the game. She continues to come and watch as many club matches as she can and was so very proud of Dave Mates and his young team when they won the 2nd XI Sussex League Title this year. She is far more than a volunteer for the club; she is a true friend to all of us.

Regards also go out to Tim Howe who was an excellent host on the day. It was good to see TIm again but alas I failed to lure him out of retirement to grace the fields of the Nevill once again in 2012!! The Howe family have given so much to the club over the years and I feel certain will continue to do so when they can. Their kindness and generosity is there for all to see and I wish her and the family as the best in the coming years.

Im in the process of working out how to add a couple more photos of the day kindly given to us by Keith Pitt, who was also in attendance. When I work it out they will be published!!

Congratulations to Dorothy!!!

Much love from all at Brighton and Hove CC,

Chris Grammer

Chairman
